Shine your eyes

I read a short story by Olufemi Awoyemi, packed with meaning. It goes thus –

“When the baboons and monkeys heard that the man who used to chase them away from the maize field had died, they celebrated hysterically. The following year, there was no maize at all; that’s when they painfully realised that the dead man was the farmer”

In my career I have seen many farmers – Leaders that made painful short term decisions to guarantee long term gain.

Sadly, in many instances, the leaders were not able to or sometimes, not allowed to, clearly communicate the long term gains.

The followers got disenchanted, pushed for the leaders metaphorical demise and celebrated his exit.

Ultimately, the chickens come home to roost. It becomes clearer, that the follower was actually ungrateful and entitled all along.

Shine your eyes. Care for the farmer.
