Matthew 9:14-15
Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”
And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Homily:
If you do not know your place, you will follow the crowd, doing appropriate things at inappropriate times, and struggle with finding purpose, meaning and fulfillment.
Do we all need the lenten period to fast?
Must we all fast because a period has been defined by doctrine?
Whatever your answer, be comfortable with it and ensure you own it. Not a top down instruction by social or religious structures.
Fasting is important. Comparison is not.
