Desires

Matthew 11:28-30
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Homily:

There is no life free of burden. As long as you have desires, they come with their concomitant burdens.

Some are just disproportionately yoked, as their desires outstrip their needs.

A desire to obey God comes with its own burdens. Forsaking a lot of immediate pleasures for lasting satisfaction. Forsaken by friends and family for choices that seem selfish in the present, but selfless in time.

There is always tension in life, between our desires and the suffering they bring. It is wise to consciously choose your desires based on your preferred suffering.

There is a calmness in the presence of those who have chosen to align their desires to the Word. I prefer that calmness to the struggle involved within the alternatives.
