The present determines the parts of history that we curate.
A victorious present brings tales of a rising history.
A defeated present brings tales of a tumbling history.
Two people that lived in the same circumstance almost always have two different narratives of the past, because the chromatography of time has separated them in their journey.
Hindsight is not 20/20. The reason it is biased is that we see the past through our present circumstances. And most of us do not fully understand or even notice our present circumstances.
History is the hindsight bias of the narrator.
