The Hawthorne Effect

When people know they are being observed, they change their behavior in ways that are better aligned to the expected behavior.

CCTV cameras rely on this effect in improving safety, security, and responsibility. Even when the cameras are faulty.

Mirrors also make humans behave better, just by observing themselves.

In my life, I have found that I am better behaved when instead of being just a participant in daily living, I take out time to be an observer.

That is the secret of meditation and reflection. You become an observer of yourself. And it improves you in ways you cannot even explain.

Whenever you take the role of observer, positive change happens.
