Holder of Space

A unique characteristic of being Catholic is confession: the sacrament of reconciliation.

It is the one space where I have been most vulnerable.

The priest’s role isn’t to diagnose or fix, but to witness, absolve, and remind you of your inherent worthiness of love and grace.

In that space, there’s no performance. No probing questions, no small talk, no judgment, no preaching, just deep listening and a reminder of what self-love looks like.

I have learned to stop trying to draw more insights out of people and allow them to unwrap themselves at their own pace.

It’s a shift from being a “prober” to being a “holder” of space.

People face enough questions from life and noise in life.

What they crave is a space that leaves space for them and is not filled with even more questions and noise.

My responsibility is to create a safe space of confidentiality, humility, healing, peace, and joy.
