Cue 20 – 5 Essential Investments Every Human Being Should Make In Themselves

5 Essential Investments Every Human Being Should Make In Themselves

“Small things have big consequences. Over time, those consequences compound. We are the accumulated momentum of all our choices. Some of those choices are binary. Go to the gym or not: that choice in that moment is going to change your day. Over time that choice will change your life. We tend to ignore the importance of fractional benefit because we lose sight of the concept of the tipping point- the little benefit that tips the cup releases a flood of many benefits. It may be a 2 percent difference in force or momentum that flips the coin from heads to tails, or yes to no.” –  Aubrey Marcus

Uncertainty is certain

As long as life exists, death is certain.

As long as creation exists, destruction is certain.

As long as giving exists, getting is certain.

As long as faith exists, doubt is certain.

As long as certainty exists, uncertainty is certain.

Obedience is better than sacrifice

Hebrews 10:4-10
For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.
Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings thou hast not desired, but a body hast thou prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings thou hast taken no pleasure.
Then I said, `Lo, I have come to do thy will, O God, ‘as it is written of me in the roll of the book.”
When he said above, “Thou hast neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, “Lo, I have come to do thy will.” He abolishes the first in order to establish the second.
And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Homily:

“But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.”” – 1 Samuel 15:22

“This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go ahead, add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves! 22 For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commandsabout burnt offerings and sacrifices, 23 but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.” – Jeremiah 7:21-23

Obedience is better than sacrifice. Obedience is a conscious choice to put God first. And if you’re too caught up in the notion of sacrifice, obedience is the ultimate sacrifice.

In the bible, there was no need for sacrifice, until there was sin. All sacrifices were made for the cleansing of sin. With sin, avoiding is better than repenting.

“Prevention is better than cure” is a mirror of “Obedience is better than sacrifice.” Like prevention, obedience guarantees wholeness. Like cure, sacrifice does not guarantee wholeness.

Obey God’s word.
