3 quotes, 3 prisms

“Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” – Oscar Wilde

People who understand this, become other people’s masks, wielding disproportionate power.

We see this on anonymous platforms, unions, associations and communities.

We all wear masks, and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing some of our own skin. – André Berthiaume

Be careful the masks you put on. There is always a risk that you become the mask, because of the fear of taking it off and its associated wounds and untold discomfort.

Tear off your mask. Your face is glorious. – Rumi

In the end, we must recognise ourselves when we look at our journey.

The mask becomes a poor reflection.
The mask averages truths.

Speak your truth.

Be.

History

Matthew 28:12-15
And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sum of money to the soldiers and said, “Tell people, `His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’
And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.”
So they took the money and did as they were directed; and this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

Homily:

If you pay attention to the present, it will teach you one thing – History is at best, unreliable.

History is the most logical narrative of the past, not necessarily the narrative of the past.

Even with compelling facts, I have read books that justify opposing views of the same fact from authorities in the field.

To this day, research is largely into what is funded. We dig deeper into what money wants and a lot of times, confirmation bias leads – we confirm what money wants.

The tale of cover-up between the elders and the soldiers plays out daily.

How do we find the truth?

In the stillness of nothing.
