First impressions matter. Decisions are disproportionately hinged on first impressions.
From partner choices to product choices to candidate choices, our first impressions bias our actions.
In my experience, first impressions are mostly misleading and rarely true.
Sadly, those few moments they are true, are more memorable than the moments they aren’t, so I give undue weight to my gut feeling (which is another name for first impression).
I am learning to see things as they are, not as my unconscious experience has taught me they will be. It is easy to quickly categorise events and people, but it limits experience and reflection, which are essential for growth.
First impressions matter. Not all that matters is true.
