Citizens

Ephesians 2:19-22
So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Homily:

A citizen is a person loyal to a nation and entitled to protection by the same nation.

Responsibilities of a citizen include –

  • Obedience: Obedience to the agreed laws of the nation.
  • Respect: Respect for others and for self.
  • Discipline: Continual learning and growth.
  • Participation: Active participation in the rituals of the nation.
  • Sacrifice: Giving more than is required to strengthen the nation.

A nation can only play its role, if the citizens play their role. This is because a nation is just a conglomeration of citizens.

If we are citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, it is time we acted accordingly.
