Pyrrhic victory

All lawful battles between family and friends should preferably be handled privately. Any public square battle ends in a pyrrhic victory, at best.

Those that know better, deal with their differences privately. Such differences are easier to reconcile, because trust remains intact.

When feuds go public, people pick sides and you start actively courting supporters. Cheap popularity.

You desire more people to make sense of your stand. Vanity metric.

Now you have even more people that will feel betrayed if you ever reconcile, without their permission. Needless pressure.

All battles bring pyrrhic victories. Enter them knowing this.

Timeline

Almost all high performing leaders go through a similar timeline –

  1. Arrive, trusting.
  2. Experience betrayal.
  3. Prioritise results (Fear-based leadership).
  4. Prioritise relationships (Love-based leadership).
  5. Leave, trusting.

The best
The best masseurs do not get the best massages.

They are the best not for themselves, but for others.

There is a truth about greatness there.

No investment
When you invest, what’s the worst that can happen? You lose 100% of your investment, and have nothing left to invest.

When you invest, what’s the best that can happen? You gain multiples of 100% your investment, and you do not need to invest again.

The end of losing is no investment, and the end of winning is no further investment. No wonder so many just go through life without investing. Why wait till the end?

New
New creams work like magic. Everything just glows up. Then your skin gets used to it and returns to its old self.

And then you move on to yet another new product.

The skin is the largest waste removal organ. More junk in, and more waste is transported to the skin’s surface.

What you ingest will ultimately override the best cosmetic products.

No calls
Mobile voice calls are growing into irritants. Soon, there will be no voice call functionality on phones. Nothing irritates more than being connected digitally and then a call jumps in to disrupt, without permission.

Air conditioning
There is something fundamentally unhealthy about air conditioning. Science is still debating it, but my body already knows. There must be other ways to keep homes cool, through design and nature.

Appsturbating
That is what we do. Go through apps in a repititive relentless meaningless motion, even when the value generated is questionable.

Merry Christmas

Isaiah 9:1-6
But there will be no gloom for her that was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zeb’ulun and the land of Naph’tali, but in the latter time he will make glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined.
Thou hast multiplied the nation, thou hast increased its joy; they rejoice before thee as with joy at the harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, thou hast broken as on the day of Mid’ian.
For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Homily:

Merry Christmas.

May the joy of the season remain ever present in our lives.
