Flags and wind vanes

All humans are grounded. What distinguishes them is when the wind (unrest) comes.

Some act as as a flag, grounded, yet flapping in the wind, with no clue where the wind is heading.

Others act as a wind vane, grounded, and pointing in the direction the wind is heading.

Some are visibly uncomfortable and restless when the wind blows.

Others try to focus on where the wind goes.

Sometimes, we are the flag, other times we are the wind vane. It all depends on our understanding.

Fear

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and he who fears is not perfected in love.

Homily:

Fear is an offshoot of insecurity. Fear needs insecurity, to thrive. Justified or not, our biases (mainly confirmation bias) promote our insecurities, shifting focus from “what is” to “what is not”.

Love ignores insecurities. What is ignored, withers. Without insecurities, fear becomes insecure. Without attention, fear withers.
