Mark 8:27-33
And Jesus went on with his disciples, to the villages of Caesare’a Philip’pi; and on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?” And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Eli’jah; and others one of the prophets.” And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” And he charged them to tell no one about him. And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he said this plainly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not on the side of God, but of men.”
Homily:
It is interesting that the same Peter who clearly understood that Jesus was the Christ, was also the one trying to rebuke Jesus from living true to purpose.
Not all who know your potential will nudge you in the direction of it. Whether it is out of love or hate, most people will advise against seeing you go through the pain that precedes gain. Most times, those same people are the closest to you.
The choice of fulfilling purpose remains yours, not theirs. Your purpose is known by your Creator. An alignment of your purpose with God’s purpose for your life, is critical to meaning, freedom and fulfillment.
When faced with feedback that tries to hold you back from God’s purpose in your life, say the words of Jesus, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not on the side of God, but of men.”
