Random thoughts during lockdown

Nose Masks
Some things you quickly learn as you start using nose masks:

  • It seems you are not getting enough air.
  • You quickly notice that your breath is not that fresh.
  • You speak less, because breathing in the air that comes out of your mouth is quite discomforting.
  • You have to raise your voice to be heard.

Weird, and irresistible
We have that friend that is both weird and irresistible. You cannot understand his/her quirks, but you find joy whenever you are around them.

You also have a weird part. A part that is inconsistent with the image you present to the world. A part that when you let out, causes a wow response from all those around you.

To live joyfully, we protect the weird parts of us.
Reminiscent
Whenever I have a thick mixture of milk, sugar and cereal in a bowl in front of me, I realize that I am still enslaved to my lack in the past.

When I was in secondary school, all the cool kids had an excess of provisions. One of the hallmarks of being cool was having a luxury of milk, sugar and cereals to make very rich bowls of breakfast and dinner. I had a limited quantity and that lack made me very unhappy.

These days I have a surplus supply of milk, sugar and cereal. Once in a while, I mix up a bowl and indulge, in spite of the fact that I am lactose intolerant. It makes no sense, but I do it.

Familiar Friends

Jeremiah 20:10-13
For I hear many whispering. Terror is on every side! “Denounce him! Let us denounce him!” say all my familiar friends, watching for my fall. “Perhaps he will be deceived, then we can overcome him, and take our revenge on him.” But the LORD is with me as a dread warrior; therefore my persecutors will stumble, they will not overcome me. They will be greatly shamed, for they will not succeed. Their eternal dishonor will never be forgotten. O LORD of hosts, who triest the righteous, who seest the heart and the mind, let me see thy vengeance upon them, for to thee have I committed my cause. Sing to the LORD; praise the LORD! For he has delivered the life of the needy from the hand of evildoers.

Homily:

Sometimes, we are Jeremiah.
Most times, we are the familiar friends.

Sometimes, we connect to the above prayer of Jeremiah and say Amen.
Most times, we are in denial that we are the familiar friends and to the above prayer, we also say Amen.

Thankfully, God forgives and has mercy.
