Music is a vehicle for time travel.
A tune comes on and it takes you to a place so vivid in your imagination, it is almost as if you are observing your old self.
Sometimes that trip comes with joy and other times it comes with pain. But we do not blame the tune, we do not stop the song, we bask in it, we laugh and we cry, we dance and we stay still. We understand in that moment – the song is only a vehicle. It is neither the source nor the end of the emotions it runs through.
If we are still here in spite of how the past was, we let the music play.
This time travel is quite different from what is presented with pictures. It is much deeper. I still cannot explain it, but I have made a conscious effort to infuse music into my journey, because I like the way it carries me through time.
The next time you hear a tune you love in the present, turn up the volume, dance, throw up your hands, close your eyes, free yourself. In the future when that tune comes on, it will bring you to here. To a place where you are free.
