Humans prefer to have a cure than to prevent a disease, and so there is a strong bias to believe in cures.
This is why placebos work. And many quacks exploit this.
We will rather take a drug and leave our internal organs to deal with the consequences, than wear a mask and prevent the disease.
You can measure the journey of society by their inclination to cures versus prevention.
Many drugstores and few recreational parks are a signal.
