Love you

We cannot treat others any better than we know to treat ourselves. Like the foam of an ocean, it just will not last, in spite of the depth of the ocean.

Sooner than later, what we are used to accepting from ourselves, we give to others.

Giving on to others more than you give to yourself is draining and unsustainable. Taking more from others than we give of ourselves is overwhelming and leads to a mess.

There is a balance required, but it starts with truly learning to love self.

The good portion

Luke 10:38-42
Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her.”

Homily:

Many portions are served to us daily, which do we prioritize and choose? The word or the bread?

Both are important, but one comes first.

Do you remember the temptations that Christ faced in the wilderness following his forty days and forty nights fast? The first temptation was a nudge to choose bread over the word.

“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4
