Friends

Today, I ran into a friend at the airport. We caused quite a stare with our boisterous exchange of pleasantries.

We did a quick catch up on life since we last met.

Something from all our talk stood out. He said, “Desire is a distraction from the nothingness of life. I used to think the Buddhists were right when they say “Desire is suffering”, but they are wrong. Find someone without a desire and they are better of dead.”

Then I reminded him that it is just as hard to find someone without suffering as it is to find someone without desire.

It was a really good chat, and it made my delayed flight bearable.

I am thankful for friends that define days.

Covid-19

If there is something covid-19 has brought back in view, it is how unhygienic everyday life is.

It is a miracle of the body’s design that we manage to live for many years with all the germs we expose ourselves to.

If there is anything covid-19 has reinforced, it is how difficult it is for people to change. They would rather literally die than change.

It is almost a wonder how we evolved through time. Then you realise evolution occurs with such minimal change, people hardly noticed. Maybe that’s the only way to make lasting change.
