All bosses are funny

The higher you grow in any institution, the funnier your jokes become. In fact, if you’re not careful, you become an all-round comedian, with every word from your mouth, cracking people up in thunderous laughter.

What I have not yet understood is if the phenomenon is because you have deeper insight into the moods and nuances of the institution or because most of what you say is bollocks or maybe because it is safer to laugh in your presence than have a straight face.

Whatever the reason, leaders should pay attention to it, and not leave the room feeling connected through humor, when all the laughter was just plain hierarchical conditioning.

Coda: Interestingly, one of the ways associates revolt, is to stop laughing.
