Count

When you are in an uncomfortable situation and feel the need to explode, please pause, and count from 1 to your current age.

So if you’re 36 years old, count from 1 to 36.

At the end of your count, ask yourself if this situation mattered in year 1, 2, 3…..,or 36.

If it did not matter most of that time, it will not matter in the future.

Smile and wave to the side.

Timeless teachings

Some teachings I have tested and found to be true and enduring.

  • Clutter reduction rules. In health, wealth, spirituality or creativity, when we choose to make progress, we reduce clutter. Clutter that was brought in by us in the first place.
  • If it is important, write it down. All the gods that had no scribes no longer exist.
  • We are perfectly designed for our circumstances. No excuses, take responsibility.
  • First impressions matter. Not all that matters is true.
  • Give. Nature abhors a vacuum, it typically overfills the space created from giving.
  • Master the art of asking. We get what we ask for.
  • Hide only what you want to be found. All true secrets are in the open for all to see.
  • I do not know enough to judge another human. There are just too many variables that drives their decision making.
  • Most of the words we remember from what people say, was not said to be remembered. Pay attention to your words.
  • We are all replaceable. In time and space, yes. In magnitude and direction, no.
  • There is a thing line between swelling and growth. It depends on where your nose is – “in the air” or “on the grindstone”.
  • “In economics, things take longer to happen than you think they will, and then they happen faster than you thought they could.” – Rudiger Dornbusch. If you replace “economics” with “life” in the quote, you will still be right.
  • “Where” and “with whom” has defined more success stories, than “why”, “how” or “what”. “Where” and “with whom” comes with a very healthy dose of luck.

The goodness of the Lord

Psalms 27:1, 4, 7-9, 13
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me!
Thou hast said, “Seek ye my face.” My heart says to thee, “Thy face, LORD, do I seek.”
Hide not thy face from me. Turn not thy servant away in anger, thou who hast been my help. Cast me not off, forsake me not, O God of my salvation!
I believe that I shall see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!

Homily:

Amen.
