Tell me more

This works so well in conversations, it should be illegal.

Instead of offering an opinion, a question or an advice when there is a pause in a conversation, just say – “Tell me more”.

Usually, as you hear more, you will be grateful you did not say any other thing sooner.

Most times, the people that share their problems with you, already have the solutions. The consequences of the alternative required, just seems unclear. Your job is to help them express their feelings in words, and as they listen to themselves, they gain clarity.

“Tell me more” is a phrase that says, “What you are saying matters. I am stopping everything else to go deeper.” People react to this, by sharing more.

“Tell me more” is not a question. Questions sometimes feel invasive.

“Tell me more” is a prompt. A prompt to water the seed of what has already been shared.

Try it.
