It is easier to find meaning in any struggle at the end of the struggle.
It is easier to give rational advice on any struggle, when you are not part of the struggle.
It is easier to go through a struggle, with a known end.
It is sometimes difficult to remember this, when we watch others going through a struggle. We wonder why they do not see the purpose, why they are not thinking rationally or why they are not able to endure just a little longer.
Know that if you are able to observe someone else struggling, you are having it way easier than them. It is a first step to slowing down and helping them.
How do you help?
- Acknowledge the struggle.
- Make the end clear, bring it near.
- Make the rational path desirable, by making it seem faster. Speed of getting out, is the most desired attribute in any struggle, so your task is to highlight the speed of the direction you think is best.
- Stand by them. Sometimes, all that is required is someone to stand by them through it.
- Celebrate progress.
