A lot of people live out Nassim Taleb’s words:
“The central rule in life is that it is much, much better to panic early than late.”
When it comes to health, those that live longer seem to panic early, not late.
In Nigeria, one thing you quickly learn with any pandemic is to avoid symptoms, even if those symptoms are associated with other illnesses.
When Ebola hit, you will be damned if you ever had a fever around people.
Now with the coronavirus, having a flu will be just just as tragic.
I can only imagine the widespread discrimination the Chinese will feel during this phase. You absolutely do not want to even look Chinese this period.
Interestingly, lassa fever has been making the rounds in Nigeria, with no marked uproar. It seems we panic more with international pandemics, than local ones.
What can be done by each individual in times of pandemics?
By all means, avoid symptoms.
