Ephesians 5:8-14
For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is a shame even to speak of the things that they do in secret; but when anything is exposed by the light it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.”
Homily:
A light has no shadows. It does not conceal shadows, it has no shadows. It exposes all that it touches to plain sight and reveals what was unknown for all to see.
It is hard being a light in a world that existed in darkness before the start of creation. Darkness always waits for the light to burn out, to prevail. The only way your light will never burn out is to always refill your lamp with oil, the oil of God’s word. No matter how great the darkness, a little light pierces through.
Unlike other types of energy, your light can be used to light up other people, and your light will not diminish. Just like a candle can be used to light other candles, without diminishing its flame.
Before you came into the light, you lived in darkness, and the darkness still holds some dark secrets. Shine your light on all parts of you. The truth is never against you, it is your ally, only if you reveal it and not resist it.
You are a light in the world. Shine through.
