Think for yourself

As social animals in a world of tribes, independent thought is de-emphasized and group think promoted.

Thinking for yourself does not equal being contrarian. If being contrarian is the goal, then you do not need much thought, just take an opposite path to the crowd.

Thinking for yourself is about questioning all stands, before you stand with or stand apart from them.
There are no sacred stands.
Anything and anyone that cannot be questioned is either untrue or incomplete.

Thinking for yourself is about taking ownership of your life and never abdicating responsibility to anyone for your choices. Win or lose, to be whole, you must own both possibilities.

Thinking for yourself is about learning, actively and passively.
Noticing and being aware of what comes to you, what proceeds from you and how you are transformed as you go.

Thinking for yourself is about courage and care.
Courage to be right when others are wrong.
Courage to be wrong when others are right.
Care for others when you are right.
Care for yourself when you are wrong.

Thinking for yourself is sometimes a very lonely path, but the long game of life is designed for the independent thinker.
