Luke 11:27 – 28
As he said this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that you sucked!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Homily:
Jesus was never distracted from the word, for he was and is the word.
At every juncture of his journey, many words were said to distract him from the word and focus on passing fancies, but he stayed true.
Not that there was no truth in the words being offered, but they were not the truth.
Comparisons, familial ties and invitations to prove greatness were tempting, but he countered them with the word.
He understands and continually nudges us to see – “Obedience to the word of God leads”. Nothing else can replace it.
