Cue 150 – What Becoming a Parent Really Does to Your Happiness

What Becoming a Parent Really Does to Your Happiness

“This relates to a second point, which is that there’s more to life than happiness. When I say that raising my sons is the best thing I’ve ever done, I’m not saying that they gave me pleasure in any simple day-to-day sense, and I’m not saying that they were good for my marriage. I’m talking about something deeper, having to do with satisfaction, purpose, and meaning.”

Courage

Today, I learnt of some health challenges a relative is dealing with.

Everyone fights battles they are ashamed to speak of.

When you hear such stories, you wonder why they don’t speak up earlier. That is an insensitive question.

The real question is – “How do we make it easier for people to speak up about their battles?”

I need to check in on those in my care more. I need to be deliberate about it, and exclude all distractions during my time of engagement.

I am thankful for those who build the courage to speak up before it is too late.

Cancel culture

What are you not allowed to joke about?

It is usually indicative of the most insecure parts of an individual, institution or organisation.

When I’m asked the difference between a weakness and a vulnerability, my reply is – “Look to what you can joke about and what you can’t.”

You can joke about a vulnerability. You cannot joke about a weakness.

The new trend of cancel culture is a good indicator of weaknesses in society.
