The hardest thing to keep as you climb any hierarchy is your humaneness.
You might stop seeing the individual in front of you, with so many issues and decisions tumbling down.
I noticed I was slipping to a place where I could be responding without listening. People know when you’re listening and when you’re not. When they feel you’re listening, they automatically trust you will act. When they feel you’re not listening, they doubt the intent of every action.
In the last few years, I have learnt to be intentional about tuning out everything and paying attention to the person in front of me. At the start, more distractions and attractions tried to pull me away. These days, the world shuts up when I sit down with anyone.
It has made many other parts of my life beautiful.
