I always wondered why the police had their sirens blaring when heading to a crime scene.
For me it was like a signal for the criminals to flee.
Then a police friend explained to me that it saves more lives for the criminals to flee, than for an unexpected gun battle to ensue.
The rush to flee also makes criminals unwittingly leave a trail to who and where they are.
The purpose of policing is not necessarily to catch the bad guys, but reduce consequences on the good guys.
A siren is the cheapest, simplest and most effective battle weapon to limit casualties.
All functioning systems have a siren system built in.
