The Common Good

What is good for all is best for each.

This is the central philosophy of designing sustainable systems.

It is simple in principle but difficult in practice.

Power prefers preferential treatment and there is nothing that irks power more than the common. This is what makes the common good so difficult in practice.

The only way to overcome the hurdle power imposes, is to have it distributed.

Systems that prosper continually seek to distribute power and those that are doomed seek even more ways to concentrate power.
