I recently sat down with one of my mentors to congratulate him on becoming an executive board member. A dream come true, or so I thought.
He sighed, leaned in, and whispered, “It is not worth it.”
He went ahead to detail how much he reflected on who he had become and how much of himself he had lost in order to get a seat at the table. The seat at the table is unstable and insecure. The served meals at the table are crumbs in nicer plates. The table cuts off true connection, with everyone just posturing.
Another reminder that the purpose of every end is the journey. Do not trade off the journey for its end.
The end of all things is empty. The journey is the prize.
