When I wake up in Nigeria, Canada is asleep.
When I am approaching the peak of my day, Canada is just waking up.
When I am approaching the end of my day, Canada is approaching its peak.
This is because Nigeria and Canada are in different time zones.
Communication that does not understand and adapt to this difference in timing fails, no matter how hard it tries.
Just as people are in different physical time zones, they are also in different emotional time zones.
It is easy to understand the limitations of a physical time difference but hard to understand the limitations of an emotional time difference.
Understanding a person’s time zone is a necessary first step for effective communication.
