I’ve found that the little things, when neglected, compound quickly into towers of resistance with solid foundations.
What are the little things?
Listening. Not necessarily agreeing, but listening. Listening is the strongest signal of acceptance.
Observing. Not necessarily out of worry, but out of care. This is why they always search for your eyes as a mirror to see whether they’re winning or veering.
Gifting. Not necessarily expensive but attentive. Gifting is an indication that you’ve been paying attention and understand what will bring utility and joy.
Playing. Not necessarily being unserious, but creating a space where everybody grows, win or lose. Play also offers the opportunity to be present with unmistakable presence.
Imitating. Not out of mockery but out of playfulness. Imitation connects to the essence of our shared humanity. It says, “I can be you too and love it.”
Feeding. Not out of duty but out of nurturing. It goes beyond the sharing of grace. It is the sharing of life’s lessons for mutual growth.
