Memory

Facebook has a feature called “On This Day” that reminds you of a memory from the past, which is basically a post you made in the past brought back into view.

Many social media apps and media galleries now do the same.

The catch is that there must be something you posted in the past for there to be a recall. No post, no memory.

It does not filter between happy or sad posts. It just brings back into view what you posted on the same day in the past.

The same applies to memory. You build it through past choices. It doesn’t care whether they are happy or sad choices.

Unlike Facebook memories, doing nothing is also stored in human memory. But because the mind is frustrated by nothing, it dismisses it. So, like Facebook memories, we don’t remember what happened when nothing happened.

With human memory’s algorithm, the trigger is not the same day from the past but anything that opens up a portal: a song, a movie, a place, a face, a rush, a flush, anything.

When the memory comes into view, do what you do with the Facebook memory: Smile and be thankful for your growth, no matter the memory.

Then make choices of memories you want.
