Today, I saw a weed growing out of a concrete hardstand. It looked so beautiful, so tender and nothing like the surroundings it had to sprout from.
My usual inclination is to clear weed, which typically grows unwanted. But with this one, my inclination was to see how we could protect it and let it redefine the space.
There are humans like that too. They flourish in an area that is designed to hinder them. They come through anyway. Sadly, most times, they get cut down because they are still seen as out of place. The lucky ones redefine the space, and everything else is redesigned to support their emergence.
I am thankful for the risk takers who go out on a limb to be unapologetically authentic. It is because of them the world takes a second look.
