My upbringing

Today, I read a quote that expressed a thought I was trying to share with a mentee just last week.

“I belong everywhere I go, no matter where it is, or who I am with, as long as I never betray myself. The minute I become who you want me to be, in order to fit in and make sure people like me, is the moment I no longer belong anywhere.” – Brené Brown

I immediately shared it with him.

Growth leads us into new spaces. New spaces ignore previous growth. To own new spaces, you must own what has always nourished you, and test what sustains the new space if it works for you.

I am thankful for my upbringing. It helps me feel comfortable in any space, because I am first comfortable in my skin.
