First, Design for Quantity

Quantity is the unsung hero of progress. It’s not glamorous. It doesn’t look good on paper at first. But it’s the foundation on which true quality is built.

Here’s the truth — quantity offers data. Data reveals patterns. Patterns lead to insights. And insights sharpen quality. This process? It’s called learning.

But too often, we trip ourselves up. We procrastinate because we aim straight for quality from the start. We want the perfect plan, the flawless execution, the masterpiece on the first draft. That’s a surefire way to stay stuck.

The mind tricks us into thinking quality is the starting point. It’s not. Quality is the result.

Think of it like this: if you wanted to learn to paint, would you sit around waiting for inspiration to strike? Or would you start painting — brush stroke after brush stroke, collecting canvases that you might never show anyone? Eventually, through repetition, you’d find your rhythm. The quality would emerge naturally.

The same goes for writing, designing, coding, building a business, or anything worth doing. You can’t refine what doesn’t exist. So, start. Create in volume. Don’t worry if the early results aren’t perfect — they aren’t supposed to be.

Quantity opens the door. Quality walks in afterward.
