Maturity

Maturity is a continuum of ownership of intent, actions, and consequences.

Children own intent. They know what they want, when they want it, and aren’t shy about expressing these desires. Yet they can neither own their actions nor grasp the ripple effects.

Adolescents own intent and action. They can act deliberately on their desires. However, they often struggle with or resist taking ownership of the ripple effects.

Adults own intent, actions, and consequences. They own not only what they intend and what they do, but also the ripple effects.

When you observe a person, you can tell how mature they are from what they own.
